Who We Are

Justine Solomons

Justine Solomons is a passionate business development professional with over twenty years experience in technology and publishing. In 2012, she founded Byte the Book, a writing and publishing collective that helps authors and publishers make useful connections in the digital age. She has organised an incredible number of events over the years with an impressive raft of speakers including Feargal Sharkey, John Mitchinson (Unbound), Jay Rayner, Anna Rafferty (Pottermore), Richard Mollet (The Publishers Association) and Sir Andrew Motion. As well as delivering educational content her events are primarily focused on networking and consequently she has built an enormous network of authors, publishers, technologists and investors.

Hermione Ireland

Hermione Ireland is an experienced marketer, communications director and e-commerce practitioner, with over twenty years spent in publishing, much of it as the Marketing & PR Director at DK where she was responsible for all areas of comms and brand development, and running the website. She’s globally focused and has worked with publishers and other companies around the world. She worked closely with world class brands like Lego, Eon, Lucasfilm and the Royal Horticultural Society, as well as authors including Mary Berry, Miriam Stoppard, Robert Winston, Richard Hammond and Venus and Serena Williams, to name a few. She has won awards for digital and viral campaigns including the DK Quiz (2011 Lovie) and The Future of Publishing and studied strategy and company culture at Stanford’s GSB SEP 2013. 

Fergus Day

Fergus Day has a long experience in project management, website creation and ebook production and over even longer in reference publishing. Fergus worked for many years at Dorling Kindersley, as a CD-ROM producer, a researcher, book editor, website editor and digital content manager. He produced and managed DK’s travel website for many years. He was also responsible for e-book development and implementing a digital workflow at Rough Guides.He currently works as a freelance digital producer/consultant, managing and advising on various digital projects from databases in Myanmar to photography websites in France and e-books in the UK. He also writes and edits content on many subjects. Fergus works in numerous countries, and with many international clients, and is currently based in Florence and Devon.

Charlie Warburton

Charlie Warburton is happiest when helping publishers improve their online presence, build new eCommerce enabled websites, select the best software and contract the right service partners.   He is an experienced communicator, salesman and business manager who has worked internationally on both the buy and sell side.

Charlie has built and managed multi-million pound B2B service businesses for Euromoney, Institutional Investor Plc and Pearson PLC. He has founded and secured funding for his own tech start-up and most recently was Commercial Director at the Firsty Group. His experiences with his own consumer facing business and at Firsty have given him a deep appreciation of the do’s and don’ts of selling direct to consumers.

Over the course of his career Charlie has lived and worked in the US and UK. He has travelled extensively across EMEA and elsewhere and is comfortable working with diverse groups, managing varied agendas and communicating effectively with senior management, generalists and specialists.

Katrina Hopewell

Katrina Hopewell: Fifteen years ago, I was sitting in my media class, staring at the film poster covered walls and I had a realisation. That I too wanted to build meaningful relationships with audiences, create memorable communications and execute innovative successful campaigns.From that day onwards, I’ve never looked back, achieving Chartered Marketer status in 2009 and working with a variety of different brands including the BBC and Blurb, where I looked after Marketing and PR across Europe.

Now, with over ten years’ experience leading the strategic development of the marketing plans and delivering significant improvements to business performance – my passion and expertise for storytelling has extended across the exciting world of publishing start-ups and indie publishing technology platforms, driving acquisition of new customers, creating integrated brand campaigns, developing commercial partner strategies and generating PR coverage.

Marzia Ghiselli

Marzia Ghiselli is a seasoned business development professional with over twenty years’ experience in establishing relationships and partnerships. Marzia’s most recent role as content acquisition lead for Magzter, Inc’s new eBook channel, gave her a deep understanding, and valuable insights,  into rights licencing and digital distribution for eBooks and magazines. She has worked in many different areas of publishing and media including the book trade, national press, B2B, customer magazines, and digital media providing her with a broad knowledge of the media and publishing industries and dominant business models in many sectors. She was at the forefront of the digital media revolution, and involved in one of the first newspaper sites to launch, Marzia is passionate about the commercial possibilities that the growth of digital has brought to many sectors, she has a collaborative and goal orientated approach to business development.
